Abstract:
This talk is primarily based on the speaker’s new book Challenging Beijing’s Mandate of Heaven: Taiwan’s Sunflower Movement and Hong Kong’s Umbrella Movement (2019, Temple University Press), focusing the structural and contingent factors that contributed to rise of these two “eventful protests”.
